Went from Detroit to central NC. Up north, I had a river and two lakes nearby. Down here, I have a river and two lakes, too. And hills. And 5,000 miles of maintained hiking trails (and probably triple that in unmaintained "heirloom" trails.)
(Almost) no snow. Know the names of everyone on the block and a little back story, too. Here 12 years. Got a great little outdoor shooting range 15 minutes down the road with an almost free annual membership. For the most part, nobody (except jackasses from up north) minds open carry. But just because you can't see 'em, don't assume they ain't there. They are.
When it comes to folks from "up nawth", we're full. Y'all keep coming down here wanting to live like you do up there. If you wanted to live like you did up there, why in the hell didn't you stay there and buy a fkin sun lamp?
I know what I've got and I know how long it took to get accepted (mostly) here. It took a couple times of coming back to pay for stuff I accidentally carried off from the hardware store but they've finally stopped eyeing me (an older white guy) as I shop. Twice a day, I work as a school crossing guard so a lot of folks recognize me and honk or wave anytime I am out. That's good if I ever need help, bad if I ever decided to "cut up". ;-)
Either leave your "Yankee" behind, or stay there with it. We've got a different way of life down here and it works just fine – it ain't broke and we don't want you "fixing" it.
