LeBron James Demands NFL Officially Apologize to Colin Kaepernick

NBA star LeBron James says that the National Football League owes Colin Kaepernick a full, official apology.

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek released on Thursday, James said that the NFL needs to issue that apology to prove the league is “listening” to the players.

James took aim at the NFL after being asked about the “I Can’t Breathe” he and other NBA players had been wearing during warmups.

“As far as the NFL, I’m not in those locker rooms, I’m not with those guys, but I do understand that an apology — I have not heard a true, official apology to Colin Kaepernick on what he was going through and what he was trying to tell the NFL and tell the world about why he was kneeling when he was doing that as a San Francisco 49er,” James said. “I just see that to still be wrong. Now they are listening some, but I still think we have not heard that official apology to a man who basically sacrificed everything for the better of this world.”

James then compared and contrasted his league with pro football.

“One thing I can speak for is what I’m a part of,” James continued. “I’m a part of a league with a great commissioner in Adam Silver, and he’s always listened to the voices of his players, and I’ve always respected him for that. He’s given us an opportunity that when we feel something that’s very wrong with society, that’s very wrong with what’s going on in our communities, that we can speak upon that and use the NBA’s shield to back us and I have nothing but respect for Adam Silver.”

Early this month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell issued a blanket “apology”, claiming that the NFL was “wrong” not to “listen to the players.”

“We, the National Football League, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people,” Goodell said in a video released after the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd. “We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest.”

Report: Despite Encouragement from Commissioner, No Teams Have Reached Out to Kaepernick

in other words not only is he a pain in the SJW ass, he’s also not a valuable player. Those two together means he’ll never get an offer. Any team that hires him are doomed, along with the NFL they’re losing All Americans that are proud of their country

The commissioner of the NFL has “encouraged” to teams to sign Colin Kaepernick, teams have said they would be interested in signing Colin Kaepernick, and yet, no one has reportedly tried to sign Colin Kaepernick.

That report comes from Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, who would be more than happy to report interest in Kaepernick if it existed.

But, does the present lack of activity around the league’s original anthem protester mean that he won’t be signed? It could, but there are compelling reasons for believing that it doesn’t necessarily mean that.

First, remember that these teams have already been through a draft and free agency signing period. Which means, that for most of the 32 teams in the league, they already believe they have the two quarterbacks they’re going to dress on Sunday.

Second, the league has put forth serious restrictions governing workouts. Restrictions that appear to apply to everyone except Tom Brady. Nonetheless, teams are greatly hampered in their ability to find out exactly what kind of player Kaepernick is at this point.

Third, remember that Cam Newton is still available. What sense would it make to sign the controversial and long inactive Kaepernick, over the significantly less controversial and much more recently experienced Newton?

In all likelihood, Kaepernick will be signed. Though, it’s likely he will be signed due to an injury or on-the-field failure during the season. This would give Kaepernick time to prepare, and give a team’s PR crew time to sell the move using the smokescreen of desperation during a much busier news cycle.

Of course, there’s always the chance that teams are merely saying they’re interested in Kaepernick because they don’t want to be called racist and have no intention of signing him.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany, are to be presenting sponsors for a social justice event at the Black College Football Hall of Fame.

Brees took to Twitter on Wednesday to make the announcement.

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, “This is the latest in the Brees’ efforts to be ‘allies’ for the Black community and ‘part of the solution’ in the fight for racial equality and social justice.”

Brees took tremendous backlash earlier this month after saying that he would “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag” by kneeling during the national anthem.

The Saints signal-caller, and his wife, apologized for the remark no less than three times for the remark. As part of their apology, the Brees’ vowed to become “part of the solution” on the issue of race. After President Trump criticized Brees for apologizing, Brees responded to the president on Instagram by saying: “We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our Black communities.”

As ESPN reports:

The event will celebrate the history of players from historically Black colleges and universities and “engage in the national discussion on social justice,” according to the event’s website. It will include discussions with many of the 90 members of the Black College Football Hall of Fame, according to executive director Marques Fitch.

“Our goal for this meaningful event is to engage in the national discussion on social justice by sharing the history of Black college football and its impact on civil rights,” Brees said. “It is also intended to be a platform to raise funds and awareness for HBCU football programs and the Black College Football Hall of Fame.”
