Gov. Newsom: Imperial County needs to reinstate stay-at-home order
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Gov. Gavin Newsom said that Imperial County in Southern California – which has seen a positivity rate of 23% over the last 14 days — is being told to pull back on reopening and reinstate the stay-at-home order.
Dr. Sonia Angell, the state health director, said that the high positivity rate likely means there’s many undetected cases in the area.
Imperial County, with a population of 175,000 people on the state’s border with Mexico, has been the slowest in the state to reopen amid continued high positivity rates.
It's one of 15 counties that are on the state's coronavirus watch list. Three different factors trigger a county being placed on the state's COVID-19 watch list: elevated disease transmission, increasing hospitalization and limited hospital capacity.
