I suspect that even more important to them than (potentially) gaining 2 Dem senators + some Dem electoral votes, is that by making DC more independent of federal oversight, they could physically threaten or endanger federal buildings including the WH, Capitol, exec branch office buildings, etc. Sometimes simply by withholding law enforcement services a la the CHAZ.
