university research has it's OWN incentives. pay, promotions, prestige… think about jonas salk who developed polio vaccine at Pitt and then GAVE the patent to public domain.

gov't funds medical research, performed by university researchers, then the results belong to the PUBLIC. drugs are generic from day one, and ALL drug mfgrs will have to compete in a free marketplace to sell their generic version at the lowest competitive price. no more charging $1000 per pill that cost $1 to manufacture.

same goes for training MDs. all med school is free to anyone QUALIFIED to pass entrance exams. gov't picks up tuition, in exchange all MDs are gov't employees for first 20 yrs, and gov't sets their fees. no more drs charging $50,000 for one hour of their time.

right now it already IS a gov't regulated monopoly. drs must have gov't license to practice. drs can only use gov't approved drugs and procedures. EXCEPT that in place of gov't, think BIG PHARMA, because THEY OWN AND RUN THE GOV'T.

a corporation is legally obligated to maximize the returns to their shareholders, BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE. that's why they do NOT research cures that address the underlying causes of illness, they only research treatments that mask the symptoms WITHOUT treating the cause. more money if they KEEP YOU SICK.
