Exceptions to the face covering requirement are as follows:
Minors, with strong guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Kansas City Health Department that children over aged two wear face coverings.
People who have disabilities that:
Prevent them from comfortably wearing or taking off face coverings.
Prevent them from communicating while wearing face coverings.
People who have respiratory conditions or breathing trouble.
People who have been told by a medical, legal, or behavioral health professional not to wear face coverings.
People who are seated in a restaurant or tavern and are actively engaged in consuming food or drink while adequately distanced from other patrons.
Archer has been recommending the city make it mandatory for people to wear face masks for several days now.
“We want businesses to be able to stay open and continue to be open and be viable, because people that are unemployed and get evicted — that’s a health hazard," Archer said. “People that can’t feed their families, that’s a health hazard.”
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Serviced reported 2,211 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kansas City, while Jackson County now has 1,103 cases since the outbreak started. Health officials said there have been 31 deaths in Kansas City, and Jackson County reports 24 total. According to DHSS data, KCMO has added 481 cases this week.
