Some OKC protesters charged with terrorism, rioting, assault

Protesters blamed for the violence that broke out in Oklahoma City the last weekend in May were charged Friday with terrorism, rioting and assault.

If convicted of the felony offenses, they could be sentenced to years in prison.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater made the decisions himself on the charges in a get-tough approach meant to deter others from going too far during protests in the future.

"This is not Seattle," Prater said Friday. "We're not putting up with this lawlessness here."

Also charged Friday were five defendants identified as involved in the painting of murals in downtown Oklahoma City this week. They are accused in an incitement to riot charge of interfering with a police sergeant who was trying to take a homicide witness for an interview at police headquarters Tuesday.

In court affidavits filed with the charges, police claimed that several agitators during the May 30 protest stayed to the center to keep the crowd in an agitated state.

"Several people were carrying flags that were identified as belonging to the following groups: Antifa, Soviet Union (communism), American Indian Movement, Anarcho-Communism (solid red) and the original Oklahoma flag … currently adopted by Oklahoma Socialists," police reported.

"Several known supporters of anti-establishment organizations were present in the crowd."

Devin Nunes identifies 'good sign' from John Durham's Russia investigation

The shroud of mystery that surrounds U.S. Attorney John Durham's investigation into the Russia investigation is a "good sign," according to Rep. Devin Nunes.

The top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee briefly talked about the so-called investigation into the investigators during an interview with Jesse Watters that aired Saturday evening on Fox News.

He said it is possible a "missing" FBI document detailing the bureau's January 2017 interview with retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, President Trump's first national security adviser, may be in Durham's possession.

"Hopefully they do, and maybe that’s the reason they are not producing that to Congress, which would be a legitimate reason," the California Republican said.

This uncertainty, Nunes continued, is a positive departure from leaky reputation attached to other investigations.

"The one good thing so far that we've learned about this Durham investigation is that Durham isn’t talking. People on his team aren’t talking," Nunes said. "I think that’s a good sign that this is a real, legitimate investigation that’s occurring."

Little is known about Durham's investigation into misconduct by federal law enforcement and intelligence officials during the Crossfire Hurricane investigation that was later wrapped into special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. The only time Durham has spoken out about the inquiry is when he released a statement in December disputing DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's conclusion that the opening of the FBI's counterintelligence investigation in the summer of 2016 was properly predicated.

Only a few media reports have been published over the past year offering a keyhole view into the Connecticut federal prosecutor's work, including that one former FBI lawyer who altered a document related to the surveillance of a 2016 Trump campaign adviser had come under criminal investigation.

Attorney General William Barr, who is facing increasing scrutiny from Democrats concerned about the alleged politicization of the Justice Department, recently told Fox News he anticipates "developments" in Durham's investigation by the end of the summer.
