An oath to defend the Constitution is an oath to defend the American people. If you are sincere then where is the downside?
The two conditions are opposite but in no way equal.
I can't argue with that other than to say that the right to be a Christian or any other type of religious or non-religious person is codified in that agreement among men called the Constitution. Not every nation can say that. If we need to bring scripture into it, it seems far closer to "Love thy God" and "Love thy neighbor as thyself".
