In the 1980's I first came across high level bankers tasked with finding farmland in the middle of America to sell to foreign nationals as an investment. Since then, the Realtors (not all Brokers are Realtors, which is a private organization) have a special "designation", called Certified International Property Specialists (CIPS), that sell American real estate to foreign nationals for investment purposes. The power person I knew at CIPS was a Chinese American from Beverly Hills who was getting rich selling US real estate to the Chinese.
So it's not just Canada that has done this. America has done it too.
