Because they were created and are maintained in connection with the US government. Don't you remember how Twitter was at the beginning? Nobody liked it.

 

Then, suddenly, every celebrity and sports star was incentivized to get on Twitter. Every single one. Even celebs who openly hated Twitter earlier got on board. That's not organic. They aren't simply "private companies" that can do whatever they want.
