Road-side construction sign hacked to display ‘Trump 2020’ in Contra Costa County
A construction sign in Brentwood is back on the road after someone altered the messages it displayed to say, “Trump 2020,” “Do not slow for protesters” and another message containing an expletive about liberals, officials said.
Chris Lau, of Contra Costa County’s Public Works Department, said officials started receiving emails around noon Sunday about the sign on Marsh Creek Road near an entrance to a parking lot at Round Valley Regional Preserve.
“We determined the sign was vandalized,” Lau said, adding that it appeared someone hacked the sign by prying open its door and guessing the password.
The agency reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office, which will decide whether to investigate, he added.
A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The rectangular construction sign was held up by a white pole and surrounded by orange cones on the road, according to a video of the altered messages posted on Facebook.
The messages included support for President Trump in this November’s election and a message that read, “Liberals are (expletive).”
