Al Sharpton was in the news again, this time over giving himself a 71% raise. Rev. Sharpton is the president of National Action Network–NAN for short. It is a civil rights organization with chapters and affiliates across America. NAN collected a tidy $6.9 million in 2014, up $2 million from the prior year. The New York Post says much of the cash is a by-product of Rev. Sharpton's association with President Obama and New York Mayor de Blasio.

Private Payrolls Estimated To Rise by 2.37 Million in June, May Revised Up By 5.2 Million

U.S. private payrolls increased by 2.369 million in June, the ADP National Employment Report showed on Wednesday.

Data for May was revised up to show a 3.065 million rise in payrolls, instead of the previous estimate of a 2.76 decline.

Economists polled by Econoday had forecast private payrolls increasing by 3.5 million in June.

The ADP report, which is produced with Moody’s Analytics, is published in advance of the government’s more comprehensive monthly report on the employment situation. Last month, ADP showed payrolls shrinking by millions while the government’s report said the economy added 2.5 million jobs.

ADP said small businesses, those with less than 50 employees, added 937,000 jobs in June. Midsized businesses added 559,000. Businesses with 500 or more employees added 873,000.

Lawyers representing Hollywood star Johnny Depp have announced that his ex-partner Amber Heard had affairs with several celebrities while still in a relationship with him, Sky News reports.

These revelations were made as it is being decided whether Depp's High Court libel case against The Sun's publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN), and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, will go ahead.

Trump’s intelligence director vows to investigate Russian bounty reports

Donald Trump’s director of national intelligence vowed to investigate allegations that Russian operatives in Afghanistan offered bounties for the killing of American soldiers and brief lawmakers and the president about his conclusions.

The director, John Ratcliffe, made the announcement Monday night as pressure builds on Trump to explain how the administration responded to an apparent lethal threat against U.S. forces and their allies.

An account of the Russian bounties was included in the President’s Daily Brief, a written intelligence report, in late February, The New York Times reported Monday night, citing two officials it didn’t identify.

But Ratcliffe, a former Republican congressman who was confirmed in May, devoted much of his statement to a rebuke of the person or persons behind the allegations.

F-16 fighter jet crashes and pilot dead at South Carolina’s Shaw Air Force base

A U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. late Tuesday night and the pilot has been pronounced dead.

The crash took place at 11:30 p.m. during a routine training mission with one pilot on board.

In an update at 3:34 a.m., Shaw AFB said, “The pilot of the F-16CM that crashed at approximately 2330 on June 30, 2020, during a routine training mission here at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., was pronounced dead.”

The Communist Party of China has passed a National Security Law for Hong Kong, which stands in direct violation of its obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Hong Kong government's commitments as a signatory of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The law brings in a raft of vague and draconian charges, including for "subversion", "sedition", and "colluding with foreign political forces", designed to crush dissent in Hong Kong and curtail freedom of expression, association, and political and religious belief. It criminalises non-Hong Kong citizens abroad who apparently commit these offences, which I suppose must include myself and many other colleagues.

"Moving Forward Act" Will Force Car Owners To Breathe Into A Breathalyzer To Start Their Vehicles

The NHTSA has been trying to put breathalyzers in new cars since at least 2015 and new legislation suggests they may finally succeed.

As Landline Media explains, "an already large bill has developed into an enormous one. House Democrats merged the nearly $500 billion highway bill, or INVEST in America Act, into a larger infrastructure package with a $1.5 trillion price tag."

A press release reveals that this new bill would treat every American like a potential criminal and force them to breathe into a breathalyzer every time they get behind the wheel.

"To honor the Abbas family’s legacy to stop drunk driving by directing NHTSA to prescribe a motor vehicle safety standard requiring passenger motor vehicles to be equipped with an advanced drunk driving prevention system that detects if the driver is intoxicated."

Hundreds of officials who worked for former Republican President George W. Bush are set to endorse Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden, people involved in the effort said, the latest Republican-led group coming out to oppose the re-election of Donald Trump.

The officials, who include Cabinet secretaries and other senior people in the Bush administration, have formed a political action committee – 43 Alumni for Biden – to support the former vice-president in his November 3 race, three organisers of the group said. Bush was the country’s 43rd president.

The Super PAC will launch on Wednesday with a website and Facebook page, they said. It plans to release “testimonial videos” praising Biden from high-profile Republicans and will hold get-out-the-vote efforts in the most competitive states.
