I thought he was pretty clear with them, and handled them well. They still proceeded to ask Q's he had told them he wasn't going to answer. He then pointed out their usual tactics when he doesn't answer a Q ("Pompeo wouldn't deny…blah blah).
I missed the first few minutes, but agree, they were all bar one or two, hostile questions. If they shut them down, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to lay out their narrative (false) and call them out on it.
