Agree with you on movies going down on quality overall since the 90s (save for a few gems from time to time).
It’s because the studios capitulate to the international markets, primarily China.
It’s tough to watch many blockbusters now because the hero either gets saved by someone Chinese(The Martian), or they have to go to China at some point in the movie(transformers 4), or the bad guy is defeated, but not before kicking three lead actors’ asses in the process, like in the latest Mission impossible.
It’s so obvious that it takes me out of the movie every time.
