So I will just say this. Have you listened to a lot of soul and gospel music? Have you listened to disco? Do you truly understand Black music in America? Do you get why Black music history month and Pride month fall within the same month? Do you understand intersectionality? You can be as dismissive as you want, but everything has meaning, everything has sense, and every voice is a voice worth listening to. Don’t be complicit in the erasure of the voices of individuals and their past experiences just because this doesn’t sync up with what you were raised to believe. We are all in this together. All of us. We all have our past traumas and shames that have led us to this moment in time. It sucks, it’s extremely uncomfortable, but as long as we can continue to have these constructive and difficult conversations without killing each other, we will ultimately overcome generations-worth of disinfo, coverups, and hiding of uncomfortable truths.
