Mark Cuban: NBA Players Kneeling During Anthem Is ‘a Beautiful Thing
Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban said players kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racism in law enforcement was a “beautiful thing.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin said, “While the NBA is reportedly going to paint black lives matter on the courts, they haven’t signaled any willingness to reverse their nearly 40-year-old rule against kneeling during the national anthem. You defended that policy, Mark, in 2017, but now you say you support players kneeling, and you’ll kneel with players if the opportunity arises. What changed for you, and do you think players, even you, could be punished for kneeling?”
Cuban said, “You know, we’ll see what the NBA comes down in terms of the actual rules, but we’re in a different time. Things are changing. The last five weeks have seen a dramatic shift in how people in this country are responding to systemic racism. Because we’ve seen such dramatic change, I want to be part of the solution, and you’ve got to let go of the old ways that just were not working. If that means going against the grain, and maybe upsetting a few people, so be it.”
He added, “If our guys want to kneel, I think that’s a great step forward. Look. I’ll add this. You know, all this discussion of kneeling and the flag has got to be again about the Pledge of Allegiance, and the best part about the Pledge of Allegiance is when you pledge allegiance to the flag, it’s for liberty and justice for all. I think players and anybody who addresses the flag and kneels, really is just standing up for that pledge they made for liberty and justice for all because that’s truly what we need in this country, and as NBA players or any athletes anywhere who push further in that direction, that’s a beautiful thing.”

US seizes Chinese products made from human hair in forced labor crackdown
Washington (AFP) – US customs officials said Wednesday they had seized a shipment of products made from human hair believed to be made by Muslims in labor camps in China’s western Xinjiang province.
They were part of an $800,000, 13-ton shipment from Lop County Meixin Hair Product Co. US Customs and Border Protection ordered on June 17 that the company’s goods be held on grounds it uses prison and forced labor, including from children.
“The production of these goods constitutes a very serious human rights violation,” said Brenda Smith, executive assistant commissioner for trade at CBP.
“The detention order is intended to send a clear and direct message to all entities seeking to do business with the United States that illicit and inhumane practices will not be tolerated in US supply chains.”
Lop County Meixin was the third Xinjiang exporter of human hair — typically used in weaves and extensions — to be blacklisted in recent months for using forced labor.
The announcement came as the US State, Commerce, Treasury and Homeland Security departments warned US businesses to beware importing goods through supply chains that involve forced or prison labor in Xinjiang and elsewhere in China.
And they also warned companies against supplying surveillance tools to be used by authorities in Xinjiang, or aiding in the construction of facilities used in the mass detention of Muslims and minorities in the province.
The Chinese government “continues to carry out a campaign of repression in Xinjiang, targeting Uyghurs, ethnic Kazakhs, ethnic Kyrgyz, and members of other Muslim minority groups,” the State Department said.
Businesses that expose themselves to this “should be aware of the reputational, economic, and legal risks,” they said.

Tony Dungy Refuses to Say Redskins: ‘It’s Offensive’
Cancel culture hasn’t forced the Washington Redskins to change their name, yet. However, a Hall of Fame coach and high-profile broadcaster says that he will never say the name.
Tony Dungy, Super Bowl champion and member of NBC’s Football Night in America broadcast team, told ESPN’s William C. Rhoden, that he will refer to the Redskins only as “Washington.”
“If the team doesn’t want to change, the least I can do is try not to use it,” Dungy explained.
“It’s not hard to change the name,” told Rhoden. “When I’m on the air, I try to just refer to them as Washington. I think it’s appropriate.”
In recent weeks, the National Congress of American Indians has called on Redskins players to boycott until the team name is changed.
“It’s time for the players to rip down that name like it was a statue of a Confederate general in their locker room,” NCAI President Fawn Shard demanded.
However, in a 2016 poll, the Washington Post found that 90% of Native Americans do not find the Redskins name to be offensive.
Nonetheless, Dungy sees the name as something that needs to be changed.
“You can say, ‘This has been a historic name and we’ve used it for this team for X number of years, but in this day and age, it’s offensive to some people, so we’re going to change it.’
“I don’t think that’s hard.”
Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder has steadfastly maintained that he will not change the team’s name.
