McConnell: I Hope Trump Doesn’t Veto NDAA over Base Name Issue

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Daily Briefing,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that he hopes President Trump will not veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which the president has threatened to do, over the issue of base names. McConnell stated that the bill includes pay raises for members of the military, and “could lead to changing the names of some of these military bases.” But is “quite different from trying to airbrush the Capitol of every statue.”

McConnell said, “I would hope the president really wouldn’t veto the bill over this issue. There’s, in the bill, a requirement, I think of a three-year study about changing the names. To me, this is quite different from trying to airbrush the Capitol of every statue. The way the statues in the Capitol work, each state picks two. You can trade them out, at any time, and some states are doing that, as we speak. But I hope the president would reconsider vetoing the entire defense bill, which includes pay raises for our troops, over a provision in there that could lead to changing the names of some of these military bases.”

Chaos Erupts as Democrats Adopt GOP Motion to Restrict Chinese Access to American Infrastructure Projects

Thirty-nine House Democrats defected and voted for a House GOP motion on Wednesday to restrict Chinese access to American infrastructure projects if those Chinese companies commit human rights abuses.

Rep. Rick Crawford (R-AR) introduced a motion to recommit, which would limit China’s access to American infrastructure programs if the Chinese state-owned or operated enterprises or Chinese companies help construct Uyghur concentration camps. The motion to recommit, which was adopted by the House, will now send the House Democrats’ $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill back to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and include Crawford’s provision to curb Chinese access to U.S. infrastructure projects as long as they commit human rights abuses.

The House adopted Crawford’s motion to recommit with 224 votes in favor of the measure and 193 votes against the proposal.

This marks the seventh time that the GOP has forced Democrats to amend their bill by approving a motion to recommit. The Republicans’ victory also calls into question House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) ability to control her rank-and-file members from defecting and voting for GOP measures.

Political experts and reporters have previously written that Republican wins on motions to recommit votes serve as an “embarrassment” for Democrat leadership.

House Republicans successfully inserted language into H.R. 8 that would require ICE to notify the background check system anytime an undocumented immigrant tries to buy a gun, an embarrassment for Dem leaders.

Even after the unexpected addition, the House passed H.R.8, 240-190.

Republicans contended on Wednesday that domestic infrastructure projects should not go to Chinese government firms that oppress their own citizens.

“We can’t afford to allow the Chinese government to take control of our power grid or broadband system — and we all know that allowing Chinese companies to compete for these projects often opens the door to Chinese government control,” Crawford said when introducing his amendment on the House floor on Wednesday.

“Time and again, China has demonstrated its hostility to America’s interests and international standards of transparency and accountability while violating basic human morality,” he added.

“We have a moral obligation to ensure that no government that treats its citizens this way – and none of its state-sponsored companies that help them do it – benefits from the Majority’s spending spree,” Crawford added.

Whose big idea it was to deindustrialize America and move the production of everything to China? Whenever a decision against America's best interests has been made one can find a Marxist behind it. American communists / China collaborators must be made responsible for the plight the country is currently in.

About 20 years ago thousands of newly constructed homes had to have all of the drywall removed and thrown out. How expensive, the Chinese drywall had extremely high contents of sulfur. ust a small, but openly obvious, question:

Why is it that we engage in business with the Communist Chinese when we did not engage with the Communist Soviet Union ?

Could it be that our congressional and administrative leaders have ulterior (monetary) interests other than the well-being of their country? Well, heck….

BA Commish on Possible Anthem Protests: We Have to Be True to Ourselves

During an interview on Tuesday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver refused to directly answer a question about players taking a knee during the national anthem during the upcoming shortened 2020 season.

In an interview with TIME 100 Talks, Silver tried to land on every side of the question, for the protests, yet also for standing during the anthem.

“I don’t disagree with this notion that people come together in a unified way to stand for the national anthem,” Silver exclaimed.

But then he visited the other side of the coin, too.

“I also recognize there are appropriate times for protest. And I also understand that when that line-drawing comes into play, invariably, you’re going to upset some faction out there,” he said.

So what is his solution, if any?

“[A]t the end of the day, we just sort of have to be true to ourselves, and the values that underlay this league. And try to make values-based decisions rather than political ones,” he concluded.

The NBA is one of the most left-wing pro sports leagues in the nation, so if Silver intends to rely on the “values” of the league, kneeling is probably to be expected.

Still, the league passed a rule in 2017 requiring its players to stand during the anthem. So, by the rules, kneeling is not allowed.

However, early in June, the league vowed to re-address the issue in a future — unscheduled — meeting with players leaving open the possibility that the rule would be reversed and players would be permitted to protest during the national anthem.

But for now, no decision has been made to allow protests during the national anthem. Clearly, Silver simply did not want to answer the question.

Business Group Complains Trump’s H-1B Reform Is Boosting U.S. Graduates

If President Donald Trump can push his H-1B reforms into 2021, he will dramatically increase the marketplace power of U.S. college graduates, complains a top manager at the Fortune 500 business group the Conference Board.

“If the [H-1B] suspension continues beyond 2020, recruiting high-quality tech workers could become much more difficult,” wrote Gad Levanon, who heads the group’s Labor Market Institute that has repeatedly recognized that a smaller supply of workers tends to raise wages and salaries.

Under Forbes‘ headline, “Tech Workers Were Already Hard To Find. The H-1B Visa Suspension Just Made Recruiting Them Even Harder,” Levanon wrote:

Hundreds of thousands of foreigners will no longer be able to attain work in the U.S. as a result.

This halt will deal a one-two punch to employers of computer-related occupations, which includes jobs such as software developers and computer systems analysts. First, people in this field receive the overwhelming majority of H-1B visas. Out of the nearly 400,000 H-1B petitions approved in fiscal year 2019, about two-thirds were in that line of work. Most went to software developers.

Second, computer-related workers are the one group for which the labor market will soon become tight again. When that happens, new foreign workers may be sorely missed.

Computer experts are “likely to regain their hot commodity status in the next year or two,” he wrote.

Levanon’s Jue 26 warnings are good news for Americans, said Kevin Lynn, founder of U.S. Tech Workers. “I would do a jig,” because Levanan is admitting that Trump’s reforms are helping American professionals, he said.
