The threads of a cloth mask cannot stop a virus from passing through.

However, the Coronavirus does not exist apart from its host, that is to say that the virus uses the upper respiratory system to reproduce and then to seminate itself among other potential hosts.

For that to occur, the virus does not exist in a dry form (that of which would be to small for a mask), but exists within a wet media (water, saliva, phlegmโ€ฆ).

Because of this aspect of the virus' reproductive culture; a cloth mask performs much better than no mask at all.
