Maxwell has long been suspected of grooming girls for Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking ring
Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite and longtime confidante of disgraced former financier Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested Thursday morning by federal agents in New Hampshire, two law-enforcement officials said.
Mr. Epstein was arrested a year ago on sex-trafficking charges, and died in custody in August. Ms. Maxwell has been accused by multiple women in affidavits and court filings of recruiting young women for Mr. Epstein and training them for sex.
Ms. Maxwell, daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, is expected to appear in federal court Thursday. The charges remain sealed and the case grew out of Manhattan federal prosecutors’ investigation into Mr. Epstein, one of the people said.
Her arrest was reported Thursday by NBC News 4 New York. A lawyer for Ms. Maxwell couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Ms. Maxwell has previously denied through a spokesman any wrongdoing.
