Many CA school districts were sent threats through emails yesterday of possible shootings. Police and FBI are dismissing them.
Today our District was one of many California school districts, including many in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, that received what has been determined to be an email hoax that vaguely threatened violence. After receiving the email we immediately contacted the * Police Department, as a precaution. As these email threats were distributed widely, local and federal law enforcement agencies have investigated and found them not to be credible.
There is no indication that our schools were or are in any danger. The mass, generalized emails, including the one received by the * District, do not name a specific school, person, date or time. Information we have gathered indicates that this email is from an international hacking group that has sent similar emails to schools in the United Kingdom and United States.
We are grateful for the ongoing support that we receive from the * Police Department. We work closely with *PD and they respond immediately to safety concerns as they arise. Given heightened sensitivity around school safety, I wanted to share this information with you. Please know that the email threat that was sent to the District was promptly addressed by our law enforcement partners.
As we work together to ensure the safety of our schools, I want to continue to encourage our families and students to reach out to the * Police Department and/or your school administrators if you see anything concerning to you.
