RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Three former town officials have been arrested on a number of embezzlement charges following their indictment this week, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation said.
A news release from the agency said an investigation requested last year by Rowan County District Attorney Brandy Cook determined that for a period of time from between six and nine years, the three officials embezzled more than a million dollars from the town of Landis for unauthorized payroll increases and unauthorized personal expenses.
The SBI identified the three as former town manager Douglas Reed Linn, 61; former director of finance Ginger Cline Gibson, 55; and former director of parks and recreation Andrew Evans Morgan, 35. All three are charged with embezzlement by a local or charitable officer or employee and conspiracy to commit embezzlement.
The three people charged turned themselves in to authorities on Thursday and were free after posting bond. It's not known if any of the three has attorneys.
