This is kind of old but not that old.

7 Oregon counties will require face masks to be worn indoors beginning today

Updated: 1:19 PM PDT June 25, 2020

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown released further guidance on what the face mask mandate means for customers and businesses in the impacted counties.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon Gov. Kate Brown last Friday released the full list of face mask requirements for businesses and customers in Clackamas, Hood River, Lincoln, Marion, Multnomah, Polk and Washington counties.

The rules go into effect for those seven counties on June 24, but any county that's not on the list can ask for the governor to apply these guidelines.

Face coverings will be mandatory in indoor businesses that are open to the public.

“As we learn more about COVID-19, evidence continues to mount that face coverings play a critical role in reducing transmission,” Brown said. “We have to live with this disease for a while. And that is going to require adjusting our habits––taking the simple step of covering our nose and mouth in spaces where we interact with others."

Oregon governor makes face masks mandatory in all counties

Jun 29 2020, 2:34 pm

Announced today via social media, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has stepped up last week’s face-coverings ordinance to mandatory status across Oregon, requiring masks in indoor public places in all counties within the state.

Nearly two weeks ago, Brown issued a statement to the public that she would make face coverings mandatory for select counties and regions within the state. These areas consisted of the most densely populated areas in and around the Portland metropolitan region.

On Monday, after yet another day of more than 100 confirmed new cases of coronavirus reported by the Oregon Health Authority, Brown is extending this ordinance to the entire state.

Regardless of region, Oregonians must wear masks when inside public spaces like stores, grocery marts, facilities, and more. This order also extended to outdoor events and spaces in which people are within six-feet of others not from their household.

Traveling this July 4th? What officials want you to know

Posted: Jul 2, 2020 / 10:52 PM PDT / Updated: Jul 2, 2020 / 11:23 PM PDT

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Thousands of people are expected to travel for the Fourth of July weekend but officials want those who plan on hitting the road to remain aware of the pandemic and the extra steps they need to take.

The Oregon Health Authority released a statement on Thursday asking people to limit unnecessary travel amid record numbers of new COVID-19 cases. Still, towns along the Oregon Coast expect to see an influx in visitors and small businesses are looking forward to welcoming more customers.

“We love our tourists and love having them come in but definitely if some come in who aren’t healthy that’s obviously dangerous,” said Ben Peterson, whose family owns a gift shop in Lincoln City. “We’re just doing everything we can — masks, cleaning, all that — so, nervous but excited.”

4th of July ‘a perfect storm’ for COVID spike

More people are vacationing by car this year than ever before but the pandemic has even changed the way driver must think about road travel, according to AAA.

“Gone are the days when you can just pile everybody in the car and take off and say, ‘We’re going to have an adventure and we’re going to plan things along the way.’ You really can’t vacation like that anymore, you need to plan ahead,” said Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon.

The Oregon Department of Transportation expects more people to be on the roads for the holiday weekend and wants people to remember to practice more than just safe driving.

New mask mandate goes into effect throughout Oregon

“It’s critical when people are out on the road to observe safety protocols; that means a mask, that means keeping social distancing, none of those things have changed,” said Don Hamilton with ODOT. “Don’t leave home without your face mask, hand sanitizer.”

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown also tweeted words of caution ahead of the holiday weekend, asking people to “help to save lives again by keeping gatherings small and wearing a face covering.”

All because of a mask? Ignore everything that has been done for the last 3 1/2 years or so, and base your vote on a mask? Just admit it, you were never really on board.

GOV. BROWN ANNOUNCES COUNTY COVID-19 'WATCH LIST,' INDEPENDENCE DAY ENFORCEMENT MEASURES

Eight Oregon counties have been added to a 'watch list' due to the recent spread of coronavirus.

Updated: Jul 3, 2020 11:22 AM

SALEM, Ore. — Governor Kate Brown on Friday announced that Oregon will be stepping up efforts to enforce coronavirus restrictions on businesses beginning with the Fourth of July weekend, in addition to a new county "watch list" for areas seeing a spike in cases.

Brown's office said that eight counties had been added to the COVID-19 watch list: Jefferson, Lake, Lincoln, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wasco.

"The spread of COVID-19 in these counties has risen to alarming levels in recent weeks," Brown's office said. "Analysis by the Oregon Health Authority showed alarmingly high per capita rates of case increases and community spread –– cases where the infections are not attributable to a specific location or event. This community spread is a serious warning sign for health experts."

Counties on the watch list will be monitored in the days ahead while the OHA and local public health officials work on controlling the spread. Brown's office said that these counties could see business closures or a smaller gathering size limit.

“I am asking Oregonians this holiday weekend to take urgent steps to stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing face coverings, avoiding large gatherings, and physically distancing,” said Governor Kate Brown. “And state enforcement agencies will be out in force to ensure businesses are in compliance. Those businesses not complying with gathering size limits, face covering requirements, physical distancing rules, and other standards face stiff penalties.”

Meanwhile, Brown has enlisted the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) and OSHA to begin "spot checks" on restaurants, bars, and other businesses throughout the state — starting with the holiday weekend. Officials will be enforcing the face covering, physical distancing, and occupancy requirements under Oregon's coronavirus restrictions.

Brown's office said that OSHA and OLCC staff may issue citations, fines, or "Red Warning Notices" if they encounter violations — the latter of which applies to businesses in willful violation of the Governor's orders and who refuse to make corrections. Those businesses could be closed, accompanied by stiff penalties.

“We stand at a crossroads this weekend –– we can either stop the spread of COVID-19, or infections and hospitalizations will rise across Oregon and I will reinstate restrictive measures in impacted counties and business sectors," Brown said.
