I loved the movie when it came out. I been pondering over what Q might be tempting us to pull out of the reference to the movie. I ended up writing this about my thoughts:
Those living in the colonies, Indians and colonists (1754-1763) were pitted against each other by the Brits and French. This was for a conquest of the resources in what is now the United States. Hawkeye was adopted by a tribesman of the Mohicans who falls in love with the daughter of a British Colonel during the French and Indian War. He is a trapper along with his brother and father. His help is sought to transport the Colonel’s daughters. When asked why he is not part of the militia, he replies:
he's no scout or militia man, implying that he takes no orders.
He’s a free man. He helps fellow colonists escape the British fort to get away to protect their families and is arrested by the British and charged with sedition against the crown. Meanwhile a Huron Indian, Magua, is secretly working with the French while setting traps that would lead the Colonel’s daughters to be regrouped with the Colonel so that he might exact his revenge on the Colonel for a previous attack on his village, death of this children, and loss of his wife.
Hawkeye tries to help the Colonel’s daughter because he is in love with her (Cora).
In this story everyone has to pick a side. It comes down to protecting & fighting for the fellow countrymen around you or remaining loyal to royalty on the other side of an ocean.
Regardless of Hawkeye’s lineage, he remained loyal and a family member to those who raised him while also reserving the freedom to assist fellow colonists despite the risk of being charged for sedition from a crown thousands of miles away. The charge of sedition was coming from an outnumbered force about to be slaughtered by a foreign enemy in league with a native American bent on revenge for the acts taken by the Colonel in service to his crown.
Last of the Mohicans is about the spirit of an American who would fight for his family, fellow countryman, beliefs, and love despite what any tyrannical force of oligarchy might demand of him.
In other news RSBN is showing protestors blocking the road into Mt. Rushmore faced off against National Guard and police. A couple have been arrested.
