France to probe ex-PM & ministers over handling of Covid-19 – prosecutors
France’s former prime minister Edouard Philippe and its health officials will be the targets of a probe into the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, prosecutors say.
Health minister Olivier Véran and his predecessor Agnès Buzyn will be investigated, along with Philippe, the attorney general said. The probe comes after nine complaints were found to be admissible by the Court of Justice of the Republic “on the sole count of abstention from fighting a disaster.”
Philippe resigned on Friday and was replaced by Jean Castex, as part of a government shuffle by President Emmanuel Macron. The government has been accused of failing to prepare and take adequate action to tackle the deadly pandemic. France has seen more than 166,000 cases of the virus and 29,875 deaths.

S. Korean president shuffles top aides in bid to revive Pyongyang ties & projects
President Moon Jae-in on Friday promoted South Korean officials known for advocating inter-Korean engagement as the chiefs of national security and unification policy in a bid to revive relations and stalled projects with Pyongyang. Moon appointed Suh Hoon, director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), as his national security adviser; and nominated Park Jie-won, a former lawmaker and special envoy to Pyongyang, to succeed Suh as NIS head.
Lee In-young, a four-term lawmaker, was nominated to oversee inter-Korean ties as unification minister, after the current minister resigned over worsening relations with the North, Reuters reports.
The South Korean leader also named his national security adviser Chung Eui-yong and former chief of staff Im Jong-seok as special advisers on foreign policy and security. The nominees for NIS director and unification minister are subject to parliamentary questioning and approval.
Moon held three summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and signed an agreement aimed at easing tensions. However, relations have soured since a second summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump collapsed last year.

Cash-loving Japan to take currency online, as it begins experimenting with digital yen
Japan’s central bank has announced it’s experimenting with a digital currency that could replace the traditional yen, signaling a possible shift away from coinage in the cash-loving nation.
The Bank of Japan (BoJ) wants to digitize its money in order to catch up with China, which has already begun testing its own central-bank digital currency (CBDC) in light of the coronavirus.
In the report, titled ‘Technical Hurdles for CBDC,’ the BoJ stated that the two major obstacles for the CBDC were universal access and resilience.
With regard to universal access, the report focuses on the lackluster smartphone numbers in Japan. According to Nikkei.com, as of 2018, only 65 percent of Japanese people had a smartphone.

Eric posted the image in an apparent bid to smear the Clintons for their ties to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his 58-year-old “madam", as British socialite Maxwell has been dubbed, who was arrested and indicted by US prosecutors on Thursday morning. However, as it turned out, a set of other compromising pictures has re-emerged of Maxwell rubbing shoulders with the Trump family.
