Ok, so here’s a couple suggestions, easiest and least secure to more difficult but more secure:

Must have:

get a VPN. Recommend Mullvad. Do your own research, PIA has recently been comped, but used to be good.

Stop using FF. Use Brave, Safari, or de-googled chromium (github eloston)

Install noscript and uBlock origin (from github gorhill). Noscript in particular will break a lot of normal things at first, but learn to whitelist and it’ll get easier.

Good to have, more difficult:

Switch to linux mint or OSX.

  • w10 is comped through and through. I believe FB puts flash cookies somewhere in Application Files or other system folders. For anything you need windows for, you can run using virtualbox or another provider that allows you to spin up a windows instance inside your linux/OS X distro.

  • install little snitch (objective development). Pay for license, Don’t torrent, torrents have been comped recently with malware. Little snitch will let you know exactly what is creating network requests from your computer, very eye opening.

  • reset MAC address on your router. Don’t use router/modem you got from your ISP. Install openWRT on them.

  • don’t use WiFi, wired connections only.

  • longer passphrases with letters only are better than shorter with special characters.

That should give you some homework to get started. And remember, everything is compromised to nation state routers, all you are trying to do is avoid data collection from global companies like GOOG/FB.

Also, use an iPhone, never connect it to WiFi without a vpn, buy a EMF blocking bag that blocks signal and use it if you need to transport your phone.

Oh, one more thing, a VPN extension isn’t going to cover plenty of other requests that originate outside of the browser. That’s why it’s not doing a good job letting you ghost on FB, as well as the semi permanent cookies they’re marking you with.
