I was connecting the word 'lace' to the poison.

 

women usually wear lace, at least in the last centuries.

 

and a creature can't do anything about putting poison in itself.

But the times says the creature 'laced' itself with poison.

which literally means a creature, ie person,demon, satanic creature put some poison somewhere which can kill .
