Been studying early 17th century in Connecticut and Massachusetts. I was stunned to find that Champlain decided NOT to settle there because there were already too many people (natives) living there.

 

Most of the time you hear historians make excuses for the barbarous Indians and attack Christianity the settlers brought with them. I like you brought up the Aztecs.

 

The misapplication of the religion, the way it was used as a tool of cultural brainwashing by the Europeans was fucked up and wrong, but that does not mean the religion itself was an issue.

 

Hard to find pure history without an agenda being attached.
