Sadly, in communist China, the people do NOT own the land. Their government does. If they say, "move, we have another use for the land," and they don't move, their houses are torn down. Relocation services are by no means guaranteed. This is happening in China now, and the target is farming villages. The government wants them in those tofu-solid high rises.
