That’s not what happened. In fact, Henry VIII remained a staunch Catholic, albeit without accountability to the Pope and the small matter of dismantling mediaeval religious institutions to loot their assets for the exchequer.

 

Substantive change in religious practice did not occur until the reign of Henry’s son, Edward.

 

Henry did rid himself of certain religious figures, but these instances were politically motivated. Most priests remained in their livings during Henry’s reign; the fallout came later. Those turned out of religious orders had the hardest time, finding alternative vocations or moving abroad.
