Sen. John Kennedy: 'Build a fallout shelter' if Joe Biden is elected

Sen. John Kennedy claimed that people around the country are going to need a fallout shelter if Joe Biden is elected president in November. The Louisiana Republican told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee's foreign policy is too weak and would put citizens at risk for attacks in the future. "Well, the vice president says he will transform America," Kennedy said. "He will, and the American people will pay a fearsome price. His foreign policy is hugs and hot cocoa for America's enemies. If he's elected, my advice to you is: build a fallout shelter." "Build a fallout shelter. You’ll need it. Weakness invites the wolves," he added.

Kennedy also attacked Biden's domestic policy and claimed that the former vice president wants taxpayers to "surrender our money and our freedom, every bit of it, to Washington," adding, "if you want 52 weeks of vacation a year, vote for him because he’s going to bankrupt your employer." "Here’s what he says to our young people: 'Finish school, get a job, and work hard. So I, Vice President Biden, can give the money you earned to someone who didn’t.' And finally, I think he will eviscerate our healthcare delivery system. I’m sure he will say, 'If you like your healthcare, you can keep it.' But we’ve seen that movie before," Kennedy said. The senator also addressed the uptick in gun violence that has taken place in several states over the past few weeks. The senator claimed that Biden and President Barack Obama had opportunities to address problems of racial inequality and crime in U.S. cities but failed to do so. "Why didn't they address the problems of our inner cities? I mean, Chicago is now the largest outdoor shooting range in America. And other cities are following. It's not caused by the coronavirus. It's not caused by racism. It's caused by nihilism," he said.

Massachusetts expands mail-in voting to all voters in state

Republican Gov. Charlie Baker signed legislation that will allow all voters in Massachusetts to cast their ballots by mail in the upcoming elections. The Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office announced the passage of the legislation on Monday and noted that the decision allows voters to vote by mail without needing to provide an excuse in the primary and general elections in 2020. Everyone who registered to vote by Wednesday will be sent an application to receive a mail-in ballot, and those who have not registered can still apply for a mail-in ballot.

The office noted that all mail-in ballots will need to be postmarked four days before the election at the latest in order to be counted. "If you wish to vote by mail, you are strongly encouraged to return your application as early as possible, to make sure that you will receive your ballot in time to return it and have it be counted," the office added. Many states have been expanding access to vote-by-mail because of the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump has vocally opposed having elections held exclusively via vote-by-mail, claiming that voting by mail. Trump criticized Michigan for passing similar legislation earlier this year that allowed the state to mail ballot applications to all registered voters.
