N.Korea again rules out dialogue with the US
North Korea's Foreign Ministry has reiterated that the country has no intention of engaging in dialogue with the United States.
The ministry's chief of the US affairs department, Kwon Jong Gun, issued a statement on Tuesday morning. This occurred just before US envoy Stephen Biegun was due to arrive in South Korea. The statement mocks South Korean President Moon Jae-in's offer to help improve ties between the North and the US. It also accuses Moon of "meddling in other's affairs." Moon's alleged "meddling" is described as a "bad habit."
The statement says time will show whether Seoul's efforts will succeed or only lead to "loss and ridicule." It says, "We have no intention to sit face to face" with the US. North Korea's first vice foreign minister issued a similar statement three days ago. Pyongyang has criticized the US for refusing to lift sanctions and for staging joint military drills with South Korea.
Biegun is a deputy secretary of state. He is also the US envoy in charge of North Korean affairs. He is due to arrive in South Korea on Tuesday afternoon. Biegun will stay for three days. He is expected to head to Japan on Thursday.
