The Russian Ministry of Health has added chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine and tocilizumab to the list of possible drugs for treating a disease caused by a new coronavirus infection. This is stated in the temporary recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus, published on the website of the department.

These drugs are added to the combination of lopinavir plus ritonavir, as well as to recombinant beta-1b interferons. At the same time, the antiviral drug ribavirin is excluded from the new version of the recommendations.

However, the ministry emphasized that the information available to date is not enough to make an unambiguous conclusion about the effectiveness of the drugs. Therefore, it is permissible to apply them according to the decision of the medical commission "in case the potential benefit for the patient exceeds the risk of their use."

In addition, three more drugs are undergoing clinical trials - umifenovir, remdesivir and favipiravir. “These drugs can also be used today in the treatment of patients with COVID-19,” the Ministry of Health nonoted.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Health recommended that doctors prescribe prescriptions for medicines for people with chronic diseases with a maximum duration to reduce the number of visits to clinics. As noted in the department, this is especially important for reducing the number of contacts and maintaining a self-isolation regime in the context of the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The Ministry of Health also reminded that prescription drugs for citizens suffering from chronic diseases can be given to relatives, volunteers or acquaintances instead of the patient during quarantine.

On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. 1036 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia .
