Is this why Geoffrey Berman got sacked?

On June 5th, the US Government (represented by Berman) dropped charges against Ali Sadr Hashemi Nejadin after their lawyers made an appeal. Berman's reason was that they "did not have the resources to continue to prosecute the case on appeal."
The US Government doesn't have the resources to prosecute someone helping Iran to evade sanctions? What?
This is the Iranian that ran the Maltese bank being investigated by Daphne Caruana Galizia (who was murdered by a car bomb). The US had convicted him, then suddenly dropped everything when his lawyers stated that the US Government didn't share all of the evidence they had against him.
Something worth looking into.
