It actually seems very probable that George's father changed their name to a palindrome for symbolic, occult reasons. George has himself explained that his father like the "palindromic" nature of their altered last name, "Soros". And Palindromes have ancient significance, as a symbol of the infinite, and as occult incantation/ritual.
