Remember this Jimmy Savile dude? Pedo guy who was friends with Prince Charles?
Turns out Jimmy worked for Thomas Cook as a paid consultant, and "charged a minimum of £10'000 for personal appearances" [1].
Interestingly, Robert Maxwell acquired Thomas Cook Travel in April 1989. [2]
In a 2012 Guardian article titled "How my father may have helped Jimmy Savile escape justice" [3], we find the information that one George Carman QG had been retained by Savile's lawyers over a matter "which never reached court". Reportedly, Carman had made himself a name for making libel cases go away.
We later learn from the same article that the very same George Carman QC has been advising Robert Maxwell in such a matter, up to a week before his death in November 1991.
It may be completely unrelated that Maxwell died briefly before the Soviet Union collapsed on December 25, 1991. But it certainly appears that there was more than one link between Robert Maxwell and Jimmy Savile.
