Heȟáka Sápa, commonly known as Black Elk (December 1, 1863 – August 19, 1950[1]), was a wičháša wakȟáŋ ("medicine man, holy man") and heyoka of the Oglala Lakota people. He was a second cousin of the war leader Crazy Horse.

I have read the book and understand the statement by Black Elk that there was a legend among his own people of Christ appearing in North America to his own people in the distant past. He stated that, unlike the white man, his people did not kill him.

 

I also learned a thing or two, through my readings, why they called him Crazy Horse. They say that, as he rode into battle, his horse took on a different demeanor. And this was the source of the name. Because the horse literally started to move in a crazy way.

 

As anon now understands the current situation. Black Elk is up as a candidate for sainthood within The Holy Roman Catholic Church. Sauce below.
