‘Just the tip of the iceberg’: More than 160 cases of British coaches having sex with teen athletes revealed
After the Larry Nassar scandal rocked American sport, a similar row seems set to explode on the other side of the Atlantic with British coaches facing accusations of sexual assault.
According to the BBC, a number of British sports coaches engaged in sexual activity with 16 and 17-year-old athletes over the past four years, with more than 160 cases being uncovered.
The shocking revelation has triggered a wave of initiatives to change the Sexual Offences Act which prohibits certain professions, including teachers and doctors, to have sexual relations with teenagers even if they reach the age of consent.
However, the act doesn’t extend to sports coaches, something that is considered to be a loophole to justify sex crimes by many.
Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham, said that 160 cases revealed are just the “tip of the iceberg” with the majority of sex crime victims keeping quiet about abuse by coaches.

Le Pen Calls for 'Decisive Steps' to Fight Islamist Radicalisation in France
In February, France's President Emmanuel Macron pledged a crackdown on Islamic separatism, also vowing to end a system that stipulates foreign countries sending imams to preach in French mosques.
In a communique released on Thursday, president of the French party National Rally, Marine Le Pen, called for more practical steps to resolve the threat of "Islamist radicalisation" in the country.
She recalled a recent parliamentary report that expressed concern over "the reality" of such radicalisation, also pointing out that "a minority of the French population of Muslim faith tends" to accept "intransigent" behaviour under the guise of religion.
Le Pen also referred to a similar report issued by French MPs in 2019, when they voiced alarm about "the rise in religious communitarianism which is spreading in enclaves where separatism intends to impose" its own laws that are different from those of France.

As coronavirus cases surged in the Sun Belt in recent weeks, one Republican leader after another has come forward to publicly endorse face masks — and model the practice themselves — in an attempt to depoliticize their use as a public health precaution.
On Saturday, the man who has stood in the way of those efforts is finally expected to join them.
President Donald Trump — who has stubbornly refused to wear a mask in public, ridiculed those who have and done little to encourage his supporters to embrace the common sense public health measure — has said he will wear a mask during a visit to Walter Reed National Medical Center on Saturday.
He is also expected to be photographed wearing it, a photo opportunity that some of the President’s aides practically begged him to agree to and hope will encourage skeptical Trump supporters to do the same.

The Netherlands Sues Russia Over Downing of MH17
AMSTERDAM — The Dutch government is taking Russia to the European Court of Human Rights over the downing six years ago of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine.
The Netherlands, home to roughly two-thirds of the victims, made the move to provide “maximum support” to individual cases brought to the European court by victims’ relatives, the country’s foreign minister, Stef Blok, wrote in a letter to Parliament released on Friday.
A total of 298 people were killed after a Buk surface-to-air missile from territory controlled by pro-Moscow Ukrainian rebels downed the flight on July 17, 2014, when it was on its way from Amsterdam to Malaysia.
“Achieving justice for 298 victims of the downing of Flight MH17 is and will remain the government’s highest priority,” Mr. Blok said. “By taking this step today — bringing a case before the European Court of Human Rights and thus supporting the applications of the next of kin as much as we can — we are moving closer to this goal.”

Soon to be Marquette University freshman Samantha Pfefferle has yet to even step foot on campus, yet she said she is already facing possible dismissal from the school.
The threat to cancel Pfefferle’s admission came after she posted a video to her account on the popular social media site TikTok showing her support for President Donald Trump.
