Transferable tax benefits from husbands to stay-at-home wives/mothers would help.
We home-schooled 8 kids on a single income. Very small accommodation but 5 acres extended garden. And since they soent more time outdoors than sleeping in their bedrooms, putting 4 girls and 4 boys on floor in sleeping bags wasn't a great loss to them. Also prevented any temptation to waste the hours away in indivdual bedrooms eqipped with every form of entertainment.
It's all abut choices, we found. For instance,
the only holidays we had were 2/3 weeks/year with grandparents but kids loved it.
