Brick and mortar schools are paid between $7k and $10k per student, per year by taxpayers. As a home schooling parent of 9 years, I could have used some of that money. Instead, we got no tax breaks and we still pay taxes to pay for schools we don't use. That would be the first step. However, I agree with POTUS. Distance learning or homes schooling is not for the majority. It is a ton of work and quite frankly most children are not suited to be schooled at home.

No, most aren't suited because they lack the discipline, responsibility and focus to be successful learning at home. Andโ€ฆ.I'm not just referring to the children. You are right, many resources including online learning through charter schools where curriculum, books, computers and teachers are provided, but again, not all parents or students are prepared for the challenges, hopefully someday that will change.

We started in 2nd grade, common core was the last straw. Child was already reading at 5th grade level, peers were still learning sight words. Child was already doing pre algebra, peers were learning 12 + 8. We pulled her, one parent left career. We never worried about socialization until came time for high school and we struggled with our decision, briefly, as we understand HS is a right of passage. Child enters Senior year in the fall. Score 1380 on SAT's. Our biggest concern at the moment is university. Child raised conservative and is locked in, understands better than most adults about the world around her. Will child be strong enough to stand up against the crowd. We think/hope the answer is yes, but we have our worries. Time will tell I guess.

Never wanted government money, but a tax right off for expenses would have helped, sorta. We have the financial means so it's not a big deal for us, but others would benefit. Biggest gripe is nearly 70% of property taxes goes to schools we don't use. Is what it is.
