Fresh Swalwell Garbage… "Staying Vigilant"

The virus has not stopped spreading. We must remain vigilant in our fight against COVID-19 and continue to practice the commonsense health measures from the California Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. As a reminder, all Californians are now required to wear face masks in common and public indoor spaces and outdoors when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is not a political statement. It shows that you care about your neighbors and your community and that you’re committed to slowing the spread of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shed new light on the importance of ensuring state and local governments have the funding they need to thrive. As of July 9th, California’s 15th Congressional District has a census response rate of just above 70%. In order to get an accurate count in the 2020 Census, every resident of our community must respond to the census. Please remember to complete your census form, either online, by phone or by mail, to do your part in helping our community receive its fair share of federal resources to benefit schools, roads, hospitals, emergency preparedness plans and more.

Americans across the country are speaking out and demanding action to address the crisis of systemic racism and police brutality. House Democrats are listening and passed the George Floyd Justice In Policing Act—legislation to hold police accountable, change the culture of law enforcement, and build trust between law enforcement and our communities. I am urging the Senate to take up and pass this critically important bill. You can visit JusticeInPolicing.us to learn about the bill and share your thoughts. You can also choose to become a citizen cosponsor; if you do, before July 23rd, your name will be included in the Congressional Record.

This week, I signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 6813, the Promoting Alzheimer’s Awareness to Prevent Elder Abuse Act. This bill would require the Department of Justice to develop training materials to assist professionals supporting survivors of elder abuse who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This bipartisan bill is necessary to protect elderly Americans from abuse, neglect, and financial fraud targeting our seniors. I also signed on as a cosponsor of the following bills:

H.R. 7217, the Confederate Monument Removal Act, which would remove statutes of persons who served in the Confederacy from the U.S. Capitol.

H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act, which would modernize our infrastructure and invest in green technologies.

H.R. 7432, the Don’t Block LGBTQ Act of 2020, which would deny schools funds under the E-rate program if they block access to LGBTQ resources.

H.R. 7420, the Voices for Veterans Act, which would reauthorize for two more years the Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans and expand its mandate to cover LGBT veterans.

H. Res. 1032, which would require the Judiciary Committee to investigate whether or not Attorney General Bill Barr should be impeached.

H. Res. 1029, which would establish a process by which the House could use its inherent contempt power to enforce its subpoenas, including via fines.

H.R. 7449, the Bank on Students Coronavirus Emergency Loan Refinancing Act of 2020, which would let eligible student loan borrowers refinance their loans to new historically low interest rates and also let eligible student loan borrowers refinance their private loans into the federal program.

H.R. 7308, the Research Investment to Spark the Economy (RISE) Act, which would authorize $26 billion in supplemental funding for federal research science agencies to support completing original research awards that were suspended or significantly delayed due to COVID-19.

H.R. 7269, the Promising Pathway Act, which would require the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to establish a rolling, real-time, fast lane for evaluating new drugs meant to treat, prevent, or diagnose serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions, including those that pose a risk of a pandemic.

The news of Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman’s retirement was incredibly disheartening. As I wrote just a few days ago for the East Bay Times and The Mercury News, it's disgusting that a patriot like Vindman has had his career destroyed for putting his country first, while John Bolton—a coward who refused to stand up and testify when it was most important—cashes in. You can read my op-ed here.
