I've often thought that I'd happily pay $5/mo(or whatever low amount) to get a FB equivalent that didn't do what they do.
Apologies, hit reply too soon.
Think about that biz model, 2 billion users, at even $1 a month. Or whatever the users are.
Someone RT this on my twatter feed
" At this point, Lanier said, we shouldn't call companies like Facebook social networks. "Call them behavior modification empires."
Lanier believes the only solution is to essentially turn back the clock and remake that early fateful decision to keep the internet free. Consider how things might be different, he said, if we paid for things like search and social networking — perhaps with subscription fees or micropayments. "

Thoughts??
I agree, I'm thinking of a different alternative with a different business model that makes them a ton of $$ without selling our stuff.
I know I owe a debt to my ancestors, they served in many wars and are traced back to coming here before we were the United States of America.
agree, I'm not a techie at all. Just thinking biz models that protects us and makes them legit $$.
I just want the true American Dream followed, not the manipulated one. Offer a product at a reasonable and fair price that people want and legitimately make a profit that corresponds to that.
