A Virgin Mary statue was set ablaze outside a Boston church Saturday night, said police who are investigating the arson incident.
Officers at 10 p.m. responded to a call for a fire in the area of 284 Bowdoin St. in Dorchester.
On arrival at Saint Peter’s Parish, officers saw that a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary had been set on fire.
A suspect had lit plastic flowers on fire, which were in the hands of the Virgin Mary statue, according to members of the Boston Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit. That caused the statue’s face and upper body to get burned, according to officials.

Human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali was unreserved Friday in lambasting Democratic U.S. Rep and fellow Somali-born refugee Ilhan Omar over Omar’s recent calls to dramatically restructure the American political and economic system.
“As long as our economy and political systems prioritize profit without considering who is profiting, who is being shut out, we will perpetuate this inequality,” Omar said during remarks at a social justice event in her home state. “So we cannot stop at criminal justice system.”
“We must begin the work of dismantling the whole system of oppression, wherever we find it,” she added.
The claim did not sit well with Ali, who immigrated to the Netherlands from her adolescent home of Kenya in 1992 to avoid an arranged marriage and eventually transitioned into U.S. citizenship in 2013, according to Encyclopedia Brittanica.
While living in Europe and the United States, Ali has earned a master’s degree in political science, served as an elected official in the Dutch legislature, and devoted the remainder of her career to forwarding the values of Western liberty she repeatedly has credited with giving her the opportunity to climb the economic and social ladder in many years as an unestablished African immigrant.
To fundamentally rewrite the American bargain, as Omar suggested Tuesday, would represent a step in the wrong direction with regard to such liberty and opportunity, Ali told Fox News host Dana Perino on “The Daily Briefing.”
“She’s in Congress — the United States Congress — and she is saying, ‘Why don’t we dismantle the whole thing?’ ” Ali said. “It makes you wonder.”
“Why flee from Mogadishu, why flee from anarchy, why flee from oppression — and then come to the United States and do all your best to turn Minnesota and the U.S. into Mogadishu?” the human rights activist asked.
“I don’t think we need a revolution. I think what we have — the American Declaration [of Independence], the American Constitution, the American values — our system gives us the tools to address social injustice, to address inequality, to address all the issues that we face,” Ali told Fox News. “And I think these movements — and Ilhan is just one of these people symbolizing that — I think we need to resist and to say, ‘Look, you’ve come to America in search of freedom, you’ve come to America in search of equality, we find it here. Our system is not perfect, we can fix it, and we do it through conversations.’
“What we are seeing is a very loud minority who are saying, ‘Let us not seek solutions to the system we have, but let’s dismantle it,’ and I am passionately against it,” Ali added.

Thandie Newton has revealed that she was groomed by an older film director when she was 16 and starting her career.
The 47-year-old actress opened up about her damaging experience with a filmmaker more than twice her age, and also revealed that she was asked to do sexually inappropriate things when she was 18.
'When I set out in the adult world, I was pretty young – 16 was when I started working in movies,' she told Vulture's E. Alex Jung. 'I had no sense of myself. One of the reasons why is because I was not considered anything.'
The screen star continued: 'We didn’t talk about it at the time but the damage was so done. It just made me super-vulnerable to predators. There’s so much about not having a sense of my value.'
Thandie's ordeal led to her feeling as though she was being 'passed around', adding: 'If you’re a young black girl and you get raped, in the film business, no one’s going to fing care. You can tell whoever the f you want and they’ll call it an affair.
Until people start taking this seriously, I can’t fully heal. There are so many problems to feeling disenfranchised. I keep finding myself alone.'

Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue was lambasted on social media for having the nerve to pay President Trump a compliment while at the White House. Several hashtag campaigns arose calling for people to stop buying their products after the largest Hispanic-owned food company in America seemed to not be as outraged as the radical left over President Trump’s presidency.
But things appear to be backfiring. There is no hard data regarding their sales, but support for the hashtag #BuyGoya grew immediately following the attempt to cancel them. Moreover, anecdotal accounts seem to be pointing towards INCREASED sales and support from Americans who either support President Trump or simply hate the Cultural Marxist effects of cancel culture being so pervasive from the radical left today.
This isn’t the first time a company has benefited from exposure through cancel culture’s attempts to destroy them. Chick-fil-A saw sales skyrocket after they were targeted when the owners were revealed to have donated to Christian causes. That has reversed since then as the company seems to have shifted to social justice causes.
But there’s one metric we can see tangibly in which Goya Foods seems to clearly be benefiting. Their Facebook page, which was created in 2011 and had accumulated just over 600,000 fans in around nine-and-a-half years, has exploded over the last couple of days, increasing in size by over 100,000 fans in 24 hours. As of the writing of this article, they have 736,435 “likes” on their page. A screenshot shared by an Instagram food blogger showed yesterday’s totals being under 630,000 likes.
Cancel culture will continue until the radical left is taught that trying to cancel anyone over support for President Trump will only increase their engagement from the right. Perhaps then they’ll give up their unhinged cancellation attempts.

Pelosi appeared on CNN's "State Of The Union" on Sunday morning where she slammed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and served up a generous helping of fearmongering to accuse President Trump of putting the children's lives in danger if schools reopen.
The president has been adamant that schools need to reopen but Democrats and their media mouthpieces are manning the ramparts to prevent even the smallest semblance of a return to semi-normalcy.
Via The Hill, "Pelosi says Trump administration is 'messing with the health of our children'":
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) on Sunday condemned President Trump and his administration's push for schools to reopen in the fall despite rising coronavirus cases across some parts of the country.
“This is appalling. … The president and his administration, are messing with the health of our children. We all want our children to go back to school, teachers do, parents do and children do, but they must go back safely,” Pelosi said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Pelosi also called Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s comments from earlier on CNN “malfeasance” and “dereliction of duty.”
Secretary DeVos appeared on a competing television network where she chatted with Fox News host Chris Wallace and emphasized the importance for kids to get back into a classroom setting.
Via Fox News, "DeVos vows to have schools open in fall: 'Kids have got to get back to school'":
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said Sunday that she intends to have American schools open for in-person classes this fall, and insisted that this can be done safely despite concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
“Parents are expecting that this fall their kids are going to have a full-time experience with their learning, and we need to follow through on that promise,” DeVos told "Fox News Sunday," stressing that "kids cannot afford to not continue learning."
DeVos said it is "not a matter of if" this happens, but "a matter of how."
The secretary hold host Chris Wallace that "the CDC never recommended that schools close in the first place," but she did note that there can be exceptions in areas that are coronavirus hot spots.
“Where there are hot spots in the future, in the fall, of course that has to be dealt with differently,” she said.
DeVos said that students have suffered from not being in a classroom environment this past spring, and that schools should have the ability to help them catch up in the fall.
"They’ve fallen behind this spring, we need to ensure they’re back in a classroom situation wherever possible and whenever possible, and fully functioning, fully learning," she said.
