I am WELL aware that things are awful for countless people. But aside from several blocks in Minneapolis (D), Portland (D), Seattle (D) and NY (D), we're not being burned out, bombed and shot at across the whole country. YET. For that I am grateful.
Plague is endemic to that area. It's nothing new, doesn't spread human-to-human, and is curable with antibiotics. However it is helpful to be living in an actual civilization if you want to live through it.
