I don't expect Governors Newsome, Inslee, Abbott, Pritzker, Whitmer (and others) to be gone today.
POTUS absolutely could come out today (right now) forcefully against the compelled (by threat of jail/fines) mask wearing.
POTUS taking the above stance would help provide local politicians cover, and help give them backbone, to stand up to subversive Governors.
