More Sheriffs Deny Enforcement of Michigan Governor Whitmer’s Mask Order
Oakland County Sheriff Bouchard won't be enforcing the state’s new mask order from the Governor. Now several more Sheriffs across the state are doing the same. Sagniaw County made the announcement on facebook today. Macomb County also won’t be enforcing the rule. Finally, Livingston County Sheriff Murphy says he will not enforce it either.
Following several other states, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered masks as mandatory for people in indoor public spaces and also outdoors if they cannot stay 6 feet apart. She says violators are subject to a $500 fine.
A second part, although perhaps even more scary is that businesses who do not enforce the mask rules risk losing their business license. This places business owners in a precarious position of having to enforce rules that are ambiguous at best.
The Michigan Retailers Association has expressed frustration with the Governor’s orders. CEO Bill Hallan said “that she did not leave the policing to law enforcement officers. This puts retail employees in potentially dangerous situations when they’re forced to confront unmasked customers.” Business owners must now decide if they want to hassle their customers or risk losing their license.
List continues to grow.
