Fake Egyptian artifacts are very profitable.

For those who make them, and those who "discover" them and write archeology papers. Publish or perish. Academics have to keep finding and analyzing or there goes the university job.

Same with "dinosaur" relics. There is a modern industry of making fake dinosaur remains. You don't think any professional paleontologists are in cahoots with Chinese artifact-manufacturers do ya?
