Another possible "Mercer": Drones are toys for use in war with Iran, and protection of US civilians? Sky event? Red October surprise?

"If you’re wondering how something that massive could be coordinated, shifting the schedule for a joint operation of the FAA, NASA, National Transportation Safety Board, National Science Foundation, and the Depts of Defense, Homeland Security, Commerce, and Transportation, consider who sat at the intersection of all those entities: fmr. USAF Major General Roosevelt Mercer Jr. The Director of the Interagency Planning Office at FAA just happened to be the former Director of Plans and Policy for U.S. Strategic Command:

He was responsible for the development and implementation of national security policy, military strategy, space and weapons employment concepts and policy, as well as joint doctrine as they applied to the command and execution of its missions. Mr. Mercer was also responsible for the development of the nation’s strategic war plan, strategic support plans for theater combatant commanders, and contingency planning for the Global Strike mission.

Mercer is just one of the rotating cast of retired US Air Force Generals who have occupied key offices at the FAA related to drones over the past 10 years. Another was fmr. Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Maj. General James Poss, who oversaw FAA research into drone integration 2015-2016. Last year he wrote an op-ed extolling the new SkyGuardian, and suggesting that the various advancements in it could be transferred to existing US Reaper drones. General Atomics has already received contracts to pursue this."
