At Least 7 Security Personnel Dead After Reconnaissance Plane Crash in Turkey

The crash of the reconnaissance plane in Turkey's Van province claimed the lives of seven security personnel, according to the Anadolu news agency.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that seven security personnel died following the crash of a reconnaissance plane in Van province, eastern Turkey, Anadolu news agency reported.

Two of the seven police officers that died in the crash were said to have been pilots.

The incident reportedly occurred at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the Artos mountains of the Gevas district.

Interior Minister announced that the investigation of the incident is ongoing.

“Our teams have informed us that we have lost seven heroes, two of them are the pilots,” said Suleyman Soylu, cited by Anadolu.

No further details were immediately available.

‘Flatly Violates Due Process’ – Louisiana Attorney General Says Democrat Governor’s Mask Mandate ‘Likely Unconstitutional’

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry (R) said Wednesday in a 9-page legal opinion that the Democrat governor’s mask mandate is “likely unconstitutional and unenforceable.”

Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards over the weekend announced a statewide mask mandate and additional restrictions for bars.

The Republican Attorney General said the Governor’s additional restrictions being placed on citizens has no rhyme or reason and doesn’t appear to serve achieving a goal.

“The governor’s recent mandate does not appear to serve achieving any type of goal or mission in a manner consistent with statutory authority and constitutional provisions,” Landry wrote.

Landry also said the new mandate cannot be enforced with financial or criminal penalties.

“Although the mask mandate and the 50-person limit may be good recommendations for personal safety, they may not be enforced with financial or criminal penalties,” Landry wrote. “Both businesses acting under color of law as mask police and actual police acting as mask police could face liability if individual civil rights are violated due to the proclamation.”

Landry also said that the Governor has no power to make substantive law through an executive order, even in an emergency and asserts that the mask mandate “exposes individuals to unlawful searches and seizures, as well as burdens them with exposing potentially sensitive personal health information and having it exposed to others in a public setting.”

“The mask mandate flatly violates due process, separation of powers, the delegation clause, state public accommodation anti-discrimination laws and it is unenforceable,” Landry wrote.

To be clear, the Louisiana Attorney General’s legal opinion does not change the governor’s mandate.

Democrat governors across the US have issued similar unconstitutional statewide mask mandates.

Satellite Images Show US Airfield Expansion At Secretive Island Outpost Just Outside Chinese Missile Reach

Considered one of the most strategically important unincorporated US island outposts in the world, Wake Island is also among the most restricted territories claimed by the US (also claimed by the Marshall Islands), given it remains a key American military outpost located about halfway between Hawaii and Japan.

It has historically served as a vital staging ground for US aircraft operating in the Western Pacific and as a remote line of defense, and is more recently witnessing military build-up as part of the US Navy's “pivot toward the Pacific” — especially given rising US-China tensions and the controversial presence of two US supercarriers in the disputed South China Sea.

Fresh satellite imagery republished by The Drive shows significant expansion to facilities, including to the airfield, which has a nearly 10,000 foot runway. Military publications have previously note that "Wake is the only 10,000-foot runway for a 4,000-mile stretch of Pacific Ocean."

The report details that images "The War Zone obtained from Planet Labs dated June 25th, 2020 shows that substantial improvements to the base have occurred recently. Based on archival satellite imagery, the major expansions to the airfield began early this year and are still underway today."

"Beyond its clear logistical utility, acting as a major hub where there isn’t another for thousands of miles, it sits outside the range of China’s and North Korea’s medium-range ballistic missiles, and largely at the end, if not entirely out of range, of their intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs)," a separate report noted.

"Guam, which is situated about 1,500 miles further west, is well within the range of these weapons."

Sources that are "close to or inside" the underground hacking community have leaked a screenshot of what is allegedly an internal software panel used by Twitter to interact with user accounts, according to a late Wednesday night report from Vice.

The tool is said to be used to help change ownership of popular accounts and, in the case of the hack, was said to play a role in usurping the high profile accounts involved. Here is a photo of the panel, with portions redacted by the leaker of the photo to Motherboard.

Reports that Kanye West is dropping out of the presidential race have been confused by a new FEC filing in his name, but jokes abound. Anthony Scaramucci even compared the rapper's bid to his own short stint in the White House.

“According to my calculations @kanyewest’s presidential aspirations lasted one full Scaramucci,” the former White House director of communications joked on Twitter in reaction to reports of West dropping out of the race on Wednesday.

Scaramucci lasted a whole 11 days in his White House position in 2017, which would be one more day than the amount of time West spent running for president if he has in fact bowed out.

Yet, screenshots of a filing West appears to have made with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday seem to suggest that the ‘Jesus Walks’ singer is not taking his hat out of the ring just yet. Although, West himself has made no official announcement on the matter — and false filings have been made in his name before.

Scaramucci’s self-deprecating system for measuring time in politics evidently caught on and his name began trending on Twitter, with thousands joining in to either blast or praise the aide-turned-critic of President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the Intelligencer claimed to have spoken to sources within West’s campaign, including Get Out the Vote’s Steve Kramer who said he was informed by West’s publicist that “he’s out” in light of the intense amount of legwork needed to get on the Florida ballot (the deadline has already passed).

Since announcing his intention to run for president, West has said he no longer supports Trump and wants to create his own third party called the Birthday Party, because when he wins it will be “everybody's birthday.”

Asked about the possibility of his former supporter running for president, Trump acknowledged the musician would have trouble getting onto certain state ballots, but he could have a “real voice” in the process. West has also received public messages of support from SpaceX founder Elon Musk, his wife Kim Kardashian West, and fellow musician Chance the Rapper.

Whether West did in fact last ‘one Scaramucci’ or more in the race remains to be clarified.

Wednesday Account Hijack Wave is 'Coordinated Social Engineering Attack' - Twitter

On Wednesday, Twitter limited the ability to tweet for verified user accounts following a massive hacking spree that reportedly targeted thousands of ordinary users as well as prominent politicians, artists and international companies such as Apple.

Following what appears to be the preliminary stages of the investigation into the Wednesday incident, Twitter revealed that they had "detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools".

In a series of tweets, the company said that this access was used to "take control of many highly-visible (including verified) accounts and Tweet on their behalf", noting that they are looking into "what other malicious activity they may have conducted or information they may have accessed".

According to Twitter, the limitation of functionality of a "much larger group of accounts, like all verified accounts (even those with no evidence of being compromised)" was "disruptive,..[] but an important step to reduce risk".

The company stressed that access to the compromised accounts will be restored to their original owners "only when we are certain we can do so securely", noting that "significant steps" have been taken to limit access to internal systems and tools while the investigation continues.

"Internally, we’ve taken significant steps to limit access to internal systems and tools while our investigation is ongoing. More updates to come as our investigation continues", the company statement said.

Earlier, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, commenting on the attack, pledged to share more information on the incident as soon as the company reaches a "more complete understanding" of what happened.

Twitter launched its investigation after it was rocked by a massive hacker attack on Wednesday that pulled a large number of users, including prominent verified accounts, into a bitcoin scam. Among those affected were the accounts of big companies, such as Apple and Uber, and public figures such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Kanye West, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Mike Bloomberg and many others.
