This is bothering me an Antigen and an Antibody are two different things. An antigen ( on the virus) illicits the antibody ( in the host) response. So testing for an antigen is looking for something that is on the foreign invader, a protein. This means current infection. An Antibody positive test means that you have been exposed to an antigen and your body has made cells to fight it. Usually antibodies mean no current infection.
