I believe the Biblical event Q is speaking of may be the collapse of the 3 gorges dam. The dam itself is a "bridge" and the ensuing flood from the collapse itself may be "biblical" (think the great biblical flood).

Interestingly enough, there's this article written in 2003 by a WS Walby titled "The Three Gorges Dam; Technology to bridge two centuries"

The 3 gorges dam project took 17 years to complete and had 3 phases.
